Market Gardener

Working farm, farm shop, café · Herriard, Hampshire

Starting spring 2027

About us

Street Croft Farm is a family-run regenerative farm in Herriard, south of Basingstoke. We farm in a traditional British way, with a one-acre market garden supplying seasonal veg for the farm shop and café, alongside our own meat and eggs. Weekends we welcome visitors; through the week the farm is a working farm.

The role

We are planning to grow the market garden team from spring 2027. We are looking for a market gardener who shares our interest in productive, sustainable growing and wants to supply a real farm retail and café business, not just a wholesale monocrop.

What you will do

  • Maintain, grow and manage seasonal veg production on our market garden (approx. one acre).
  • Sow, plant, weed, harvest and prepare produce for the farm shop and café.
  • Work with Ian and Hannah on crop planning, soil health and regenerative practices.
  • Help keep polytunnels, beds and paths productive and presentable for a visitor-facing farm.
  • Record what is ready to pick and coordinate with shop and kitchen as menus change.

About you

  • Experience in market gardening, horticulture or commercial veg production (a plus but not essential; a passion for growing veg is important).
  • Confident growing a varied range of seasonal crops for direct sale.
  • Happy working outdoors year-round in a small team on a working farm, and often alone.
  • Practical, self-directed and interested in regenerative or low-input methods.
  • Full driving licence useful for local errands (not essential).

Practical details

  • Start: Spring 2027 (exact date to be agreed).
  • Hours: To be confirmed: likely full-time or substantial part-time through the growing season
  • Where: Street Croft Farm, 3 Parsonage Cottage, Herriard, Basingstoke RG25 2PQ.
  • Pay: Salary to be discussed.

How to apply

We are collecting interest ahead of a spring 2027 start. Speak to Farmer or Weeder on a weekend visit, or email your CV and a short note on your growing experience to info@streetcroftfarm.co.uk.
